1. What is Generative AI and why does this matter for music?
Generative AI refers to systems that can create new content, including music, using data they’ve learned from.
These systems are already being built and used across the industry. The question isn’t whether this is happening — it’s how it happens, and whether artists are included in a fair and transparent way.
2. What is Audiosocket offering?
We’re offering an optional opt-in that allows your music to be included in Generative AI opportunities.
This includes:
• Training AI systems using licensed music
• Powering creative tools and platforms
• Enabling developers to legally build with music
Our goal is to create a path where AI can be built with artists, not around them.
3. Do I have to participate?
No.
This is completely optional.
If you do nothing, your music will not be used in these opportunities.
4. What happens if I opt in?
If you opt in:
• Your music may be used in AI systems and tools
• Your music may help train models
• Outputs created using your music may be used commercially
You do not need to approve each use individually.
5. How are you protecting my music?
Everything is built around three principles:
Permission
Nothing happens unless you opt in.
Controlled Use
We only work with approved partners under defined terms. We require reasonable safeguards, usage tracking, and restrictions on misuse.
Respect for Identity
Your name, likeness, and voice cannot be used to generate AI content without a separate agreement.
6. How do I get paid?
If your music contributes to AI systems that generate revenue:
You share in that revenue.
We have intentionally designed this to avoid one-time buyouts.
Instead, this creates:
• ongoing participation
• alignment with how value is created over time
As new models emerge (API usage, datasets, platform licensing), this same principle applies:
If your music creates value, you share in it.
7. Why not just do a flat fee?
Because we don’t believe that reflects the long-term value your music can create in AI systems.
Flat fees shift all upside away from artists.
We’re working to establish a more equitable model where artists continue to participate as value is generated over time.
8. Who can my music be shared with?
Your music may be licensed to:
• AI companies
• technology platforms
• developers building new tools
• other partners working within our framework
All partners are required to follow the conditions outlined in the Addendum.
9. Will AI copy my music exactly?
No.
We do not permit uses designed to reproduce or extract your music in isolation or in a substantially similar form. These systems are trained across large bodies of music and are intended to generate new outputs, not duplicates of any one artist’s work.
10. Who owns the copyright to my music?
You do.
You retain ownership of your music as you do today.
This addendum allows Audiosocket to license and use your music in new ways, but it does not transfer ownership.
11. Who owns the copyright to AI-generated music?
That is still an evolving legal question.
In general, AI-generated outputs are intended to be new works rather than copies of any one song. But whether copyright exists in those outputs, and who may own it, can depend on the specific facts and the laws that apply.
12. Can I change my mind later?
Yes.
You can opt out at any time for future uses.
However:
• Existing licenses remain in place
• Models already trained are not retrained
• You will continue to receive revenue from those uses
13. Why is Audiosocket doing this?
Because AI is already being built using music, often without permission, transparency, or artist participation.
We believe there’s a better way:
• Licensed instead of scraped
• Transparent instead of opaque
• Equitable instead of extractiveWe’re working to help establish that standard.
14. What is the bigger goal here?
To ensure that:
• artists are included in the future of music and AI
• your work is respected and protected
• you benefit from new forms of value creation
This isn’t just about one opportunity — it’s about helping shape how this evolves.
